Southwestern Law School is a private educational institution that opened its doors in 1911. Unlike most other schools, this one has no affiliation with any university institution. The founder, John J. Schumacher, established it as a non-profit institution that would give women and minorities the opportunity to study law. This is the oldest school in the state of California. It is accredited by the American Bar Association and is ranked in the third tier of law schools by US News.
This school has a faculty student ratio of 14.4 with students from every state and many countries around the world. The ratio of men to women in the student body is 50:50, with 38% being a minority. 35 different foreign languages are reported to be fluent in this student body. The 25th to 75th percentile of the student body GPA ranges from 2.96 to 3.48 with LSAT scores ranging from 153 to 157.
The structure has 50 full-time professors with over 33% women and 20% minority. The programs they teach are the Moot Court Honors Program, Negotiations Honors Program, and the Trial Advocacy Honors Program. They also support clinical programs which include the Children’s Rights Clinic, Immigration and Human Rights Clinic, Road Law and Youth in Transition to name a few.
Notable members include Tom Bradley, Marcia Clark, Chris Bahr, Donald Sterling, and the 14th president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Howard W. Hunter.
